Charles River has been conducting toxicology studies for almost 50 years and has experience with all mammalian species used for toxicology testing. We offer a full range of regulatory-compliant (REACH and TOSCA) studies and services to support the development and international registration of chemicals.
Acute toxicity testing is used to define the intrinsic toxicity of a substance. Charles River performs a full range of acute toxicity studies, including oral, dermal, inhalation, irritation and sensitization tests.
In addition, Charles River offers a wide spectrum of short- and long-term repeat dose studies through to carcinogenicity, including any neurotoxicity screening that may be required. The most common route of administration is oral, either by gavage or by incorporation into formulated diets. However, an array of alternative study designs and routes of administration (e.g., inhalation) is available on request.
We also offer reproductive toxicology as part of our toxicology portfolio. This is a highly specialized discipline that assesses the potential detrimental effects of chemicals on the reproductive process. The toxicologists at Charles River have extensive experience in the design and conduct of reproductive toxicity studies for international product registrations. Studies are performed in rodents and rabbits using appropriate routes of administration, including oral, parenteral and specialty routes such as inhalation and infusion.
