Peripheral neurotoxicity occurs in approximately 40 percent of previously untreated cancer patients who receive taxane-containing chemotherapy regimes. Because the effects of this therapy may limit treatment for a significant percentage of patients, the Charles River model that mimics clinical toxicity is significant. The model permits the evaluation of interactions of proposed protectant strategies for the disease and its treatment.
