mouse embryo assay

The mouse embryo assay (MEA) is currently the most widely used bioassay to test for toxicity and functionality of media and materials. Our GEMS group utilizes fresh one- and two-cell embryos produced from a cross between B6D2F1 and B6C3F1 mice to perform this service. The embryos are collected and incubated in the test media or material for a predetermined amount of time. After exposure, the embryos are then cultured for approximately 72-96 hours in a defined culture media and scored for blastocyst development. Charles River requires an 80% development rate from its control and test article to be considered a passing score. If the development is below this required rate, a repeat test is performed at no additional charge. We will work in partnership with you to design a specific MEA to meet your needs. Our laboratory can perform these assays seven days a week under GLP conditions, enabling a quick turnaround time. As with all of our services, our MEA testing is supported by a vast network of PhD-level scientists to ensure accurate, high-quality results.
