Charleston Employees Volunteer at Food Bank

Employees at the Endotoxin & Microbial Detection site in Charleston, South Carolina, used their One Day to volunteer at the Lowcountry Food Bank, an organization that conducts local food drives for the poor and hungry in the state’s coastal counties. In groups of 12-30, Charleston employees visited the Food Bank five times, helping to sort, clean and pack food collected through multiple food drives.
Volunteering isn’t new to the employees in Charleston. Even before the One Day Program began, they have been giving back to the community by partnering with organizations that hold food drives. They also place receptacles around the site and deliver donated goods to these groups.
With help from volunteers, the Lowcountry Food Bank collects and redistributes donated food to over 320 agencies that provide hunger-relief services, such as manufacturers, food distributors, government organizations, supermarkets and farmers. According to the Food Bank’s volunteer coordinator, the Endosafe employees packed a total of 1,200 boxes for seniors through the organization. They also sorted through 8,000 pounds of peaches and cleaned and packed over 10,000 pounds of donated food. And that was only the first three groups.
The coordinator wrote an email to Charles River, saying, “Thank you to all the Charles Rivers employees who have volunteered. You have been a delight to work with.”
