Get Ready for July, CNS Month Jun 25, 2012 Each month, Eureka will feature a relevant area or industry topic in biomedical research. This coming July, we’re focusing on the Central Nervous System. In the 1st article, When Hounsfield Met Ambrose, The Invention of Computed Tomography, science writer Dustin Grinnell tells the story of how Godfrey Hounsfield–an engineer, dismissed as a “crank” by many doctors–formed a partnership with neuroradiologist James Ambrose and how the two went on to revolutionize diagnostic medicine and the way we look inside the brain. Our 2nd article, written by Project Manager Toni Ahtoniemi in Discovery Research Services, who earned his PhD in CNS-related disease models, looks at Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and how this brain imaging technology acquires anatomical, functional and metabolic information on the brain. In July’s 3rd article, written by Stephen Durham, Corporate Senior VP of Global Preclinical Services discusses cholesterol-lowering statins and the FDA’s recent demand for makers to include new side effect warnings on labels, such as muscle injury, increased risk of diabetes, and most recently memory loss. The 4th article of the month, also written by Stephen Durham, will explore how animal models mimic brain tumors in humans. Comments Blog post currently doesn't have any comments.
