Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing - Charles River Excellence in Refinement Award
This award honors an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the development, promotion or implementation of refinement alternatives. This award is based on the conviction that the humane care of laboratory animals is both a moral imperative and a scientific necessity.  The award is administered through the Center for Alternative to Animal Testing (CAAT) and is presented at a prominent session of the World Congress on Alternatives and Animal Use in the Life Sciences.

Nominations are processed by CAAT and should be sent by letter directly to Ruth Brady (rbrady@ihsph.edu). In addition to curriculum vitae with bibliography, please also provide in the cover letter a brief sketch of the nominee's professional background and a statement pertaining to the individual's qualifications for the award. Lab Animal Specialist Travel Award
Administered through the International Council for Laboratory Animal Science (ICLAS), the recipient is a biomedical scientist or veterinarian, from South or Central America, involved with experimental animals and who is a member of their local or regional laboratory animal science organization. The award sponsors an individual to travel to the national AALAS meeting. The AALAS meeting is the largest laboratory animal science meeting in the world.

Charles River Short Course Scholarships
Currently, there is a shortage of veterinarians working in our field.  The scholarship program for the Short Course is one effort to increase the number of veterinarians entering the field of laboratory animal medicine.  We sponsor scholarships for veterinary students and veterinarians who are not currently involved in laboratory animal medicine but are considering a career change.
