Now Available: Elemental Analysis by Inductively Coupled Plasma-Optical Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-OES)

Charles River is pleased to announce the introduction of Inductively Coupled Plasma-Optical Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-OES) using the Perkin-Elmer Optima 8000 ICP-OES. With this technique, Charles River can offer a variety of elemental determinations on a diverse array of samples from the pharmaceutical, chemical/industrial, environmental, agricultural, as well as food and mining industries.

The Optima system’s design has been enhanced, which ensures accuracy and improves method development. It also enables Charles River to deliver faster results.

With a custom solid-state detector, third-generation solid-state RF power supply, and purged optical system, the Optima 8000 provides enhanced reliability and reduced running costs.

More on ICP-OES

ICP-OES is the measurement of light emitted by elements in a sample introduced into an ICP source. The ICP source is argon plasma maintained by the interaction of a radio frequency field and ionized argon gas. The plasma can reach temperatures as high as 10,000 °K, allowing complete atomization of the sample. The measured emission intensities are then compared to the intensities of standards of known concentration to obtain the elemental concentrations in the unknown sample.

ICP-OES is a true multi-element technique with exceptional sample throughput. The Optima 8000 can typically determine more than 73 elements per minute in an individual sample with detection limits in the region of ppb. The dual-view model offers the widest working range possible.
