Moving Towards Translational Pain Models
Oct 21 2013
The translational gap between measurements of pain in humans versus animals has received recent attention due to a very high rate of failure in clinical trials by many ‘promising’ molecules. While pain in the clinic is mostly assessed using a verbal numerical rating scale, preclinical pain models have focused predominantly on ‘reflexive’ measures, such as withdrawal responses upon thermal or mechanical stimulation. Although such tests are quick and easy, and thus still have value in quick screening of compounds, there is now recognition in the pain research community that these types of pain measures have limitations. In addition to describing conventional pain models and pain tests, this webinar will explore recent advances in clinically relevant pain models and pain assessment techniques.
