Avian Vaccine Services Secures Turkey-Related USDA Product License
March 4, 2010 – We are pleased to announce that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has recently issued a product license for our proprietary Mycoplasma meleagridis (MM) Serum Plate Agglutination Test. MM infection is an egg-transmitted disease believed to be a specific pathogen for turkeys worldwide. The organism is found in the respiratory and reproductive tracts of these birds, and although it has been virtually eradicated in most basic breeder and commercial flocks, federal and international regulations continue to require the test for poultry transport as part of a routine screening program.
With the license for the MM Serum Plate Agglutination Test, we now offer the complete range of National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP) tests that are required for live poultry and poultry products to be transported across U.S. state lines. In addition, the NPIP certification is recognized by many international governments as assurance that products are free of Mycoplasma and Salmonella pullorum. As a result, with the addition of this new licensed test, we have become the only single source provider in the industry for poultry transporters that need to comply with the NPIP program.
The MM Serum Plate Agglutination Test is currently available, and can be ordered by contacting Charles River Avian Vaccine Services at 1.800.772.3271 or csdspf@crl.com.
With the addition of the MM Serum Plate Agglutination Test to our extensive portfolio of high-quality vaccine and avian-related products and services, we continue to support the needs of the poultry industry worldwide.
