Charles River Donates over $100,000 to Japanese Relief Efforts
April 18, 2011 - On March 11th, northern Japan was hit with one of the largest earthquakes ever recorded. The 9.0 magnitude quake, and resulting Tsunami, wreaked havoc on the small nation, killing and injuring thousands and leaving nearly a quarter of a million homeless. In times like these, international support is crucial to strengthen relief efforts for those in need. There was an outpouring of support from around the world for disasters such as Katrina, as well as the earthquake in Haiti. The same is true for this tragedy. Individuals, organizations and businesses alike are stepping up and donating what they can, all with the unifying question: “How can we help?”
Charles River was one of those businesses. In Japan’s time of great trial we did what we could to help the relief efforts in the Country by donating approximately $110,000 (USD) through our matching gift program. For every dollar (USD) a Charles River employee contributed the Company matched it dollar for dollar.
This money will go directly to the Japanese Relief Fund through the American Red Cross. We’re happy to know that our donation will be disbursed to organizations in Japan providing relief and aid to victims of this tragedy. In addition, the money will be used for long-term recovery efforts and the rebuilding of the nation’s infrastructure. Charles River has and will continue to support efforts like the Japanese Relief Fund to ensure the welfare and safety of all those in great need.
