isolators

Semi-rigid Isolators: Isolators are used for housing laboratory animals. For over 55 years, Charles River has used isolator technology to maintain its nucleus colonies and to produce specialty strains, such as immunocompromised mice. More recently, Charles River has employed isolators to maintain transgenic rodent colonies.

Customer demand has led us to offer these units for commercial sale. Our custom fabricated isolators are secure, durable and easy to set up in any conditioned environment. We have standard 3’, 6’ and 8’ semi-rigid isolators. In addition to these standard size models, we can create customized semi-rigid isolators to meet your facility’s specific needs. A 6' flexible film isolator is also available. All models are designed to be stacked two units high. The 3' isolators are available in right- and left-handed versions to facilitate stacking.

We now also offer a 4' semi-rigid poultry isolator that was custom designed to meet avian housing requirements. The isolator has a specially designed removable water line with avian water cups and an integrated lighting system that utilizes fluorescent bulbs, which can be changed from outside the isolator. In addition, the isolators are equipped with a plastic grate floor that allows feces to drop down to a lower chamber and a waste removal port to make cleaning more convenient.

Typical uses for isolators include animal quarantine, housing and production of immunodeficient animals, and maintenance of foundation colonies of genetically engineered animals. Isolators also provide a cost-effective method of biocontainment or bioexclusion for critical research studies.
