Genetically Engineered Models & Services | Charles River

accelerate research

We know that getting the animals you need for study as soon as possible is critical to advancing your research. Our GEMS group can rapidly expand your colony, define the genetics in half the traditional time, and provide quick and cost-effective colony backup solutions to ensure that your colony is protected. Accelerating research has never been more important and you can have confidence that we are here to help.

Charles River offers several services specifically designed to help you get the animals you need faster. Our Rapid Expansion service is exactly that. By utilizing in vitro fertilization (IVF), it is possible for you to get hundreds of animals in as little as 12 weeks, starting with just a few male mice.

Our MAX-BAXSM service utilizes a microsatellite-based speed congenics program that can provide fully congenic animals to you in as few as five generations, a nearly 15-month time savings compared with traditional methods.

Our embryo and sperm cryopreservation options can provide reliable colony backup in as little as two weeks to protect you against a facility contamination or failure, natural disaster, or loss of phenotype due to genetic drift. All of these services are overseen by a dedicated team of professionals to ensure the highest-quality results.

Through our relationship with genOway, GEMS is also able to offer high-quality, reliable, and efficient model creation services.
