We understand that you may want the flexibility to screen serum samples in your own laboratory. Performing in-house health surveillance on your animal colonies is a cost-effective way to detect infections and protect the integrity of your research. Charles River provides high-quality serology reagents for viral and bacterial antibody testing that are available for various serology testing platforms, including the Multiplexed Fluorometric ImmunoAssay™ (MFIA™), enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), or Indirect Fluorescent Antibody (IFA) test. Our technical staff is available to assist you in setting up your in-house serological testing laboratory. Beyond supplying your reagents, we will train your staff and provide continuing support with troubleshooting and results interpretation.

MFIA™ Products
The MFIA™ multiplex platform allows numerous different diagnostic assays, along with sample and system suitability controls, to be performed simultaneously in one well. For a detailed description of this technology, visit our Serology Services page. Our MFIA™ offerings include:
- MFIA™ antigen-coated beads
- Primary diluent
- Biotin-labeled conjugate
- Streptavidin-R-phycoerythrin (SPE)
- Control sera
ELISA Products
Each ELISA plate provides 48 tests consisting of one antigen-coated well paired with a tissue-only well as a negative control. Our ELISA offerings include:
- Antigen-coated 96-well plates (fixed- or removable-well format)
- Conjugate
- Control sera
IFA Products
IFA slides are available for most of the viral agents tested by ELISA and provide an alternative method for detection of specific antibodies. Each slide is sufficient for 16 samples. Our IFA offerings include:
- 18-well antigen-coated glass slides
- Conjugate
- Control sera
Serology Kit
Ideal for either fieldwork or rapid outbreak detection, the all-inclusive Murine ImmunoComb® Kit allows you to screen research animal blood samples for viral antibodies at a low cost per assay. The kit simultaneously detects antibodies to Sendai virus, rodent coronaviruses (MHV and RCV/SDA), and Mycoplasma pulmonis.
