Quantitative reverse transcription PCR (QRT-PCR) measures the steady-state level of mRNA expression from a transgene or knockout construct. Expression testing can also be used to confirm data for individual genes obtained from large-scale microarray studies or to quantify the effect of RNAi-mediated gene knockdown. While different RNAi constructs targeted to the same gene can exhibit widely differing effects, expression testing precisely determines the level of reduction of a specific mRNA as a consequence of RNAi treatment and is used to compare the relative effects of different RNAi targets on the knockdown of the gene of interest.
Our expression testing service quantifies mRNA levels using fluorescence-based TaqMan® technology. Expression testing protocols require in-house assay development and are rigorously optimized and validated. A variety of tissues may be submitted for RNA isolation and quantification.
To further characterize your model, Charles River also offers a full-service pathology laboratory. The services offered by this lab can provide you with additional data about your valuable genetically engineered model.
