‘Tis the Season for Giving

The Holiday Season is a time for stepping back, reflecting and concentrating on what matters most. Though most of all, the holidays are a time for celebrating our most time-honored tradition of giving. Giving gifts, giving thanks, and for Charles River: GIVING ONE™. Launched in 2008, the GIVING ONE™ campaign was designed to raise awareness of and provide financial support for scientific research. In the spirit of giving, and in lieu of sending holiday cards this season, Charles River will make donations through our GIVING ONE™ campaign to various nonprofit organizations, including the Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation, American Association for Cancer Research, American Diabetes Association and American Heart Association. In our continuous effort to support the development and delivery of therapeutics, we are proud to continue this Charles River tradition of holiday giving.

Biopharmaceutical Development and Production Week San Diego, CA

Biopharmaceutical Development & Production Week consists of nine conferences on topics ranging from antibody development and production to outsourcing manufacturing of biopharmaceuticals. This event gives researchers a chance to learn from a variety of industry experts, hear about new technologies and products, access over 100 speakers, and network with professionals from different disciplines. Staff scientists from Charles River Biopharmaceutical Services (BPS) and Preclinical Services (PCS) will be giving three presentations at two of the following conferences during the week-long meeting. We will also be exhibiting in Booth #109.

Feb 17–Feb 18

Japan Society of Experimental Diabetes and Obesity (JSEDO) Meeting Aichi, Japan

Charles River Discovery Services will be exhibiting at this event. We offer evaluation of test agents in models of type 1 and type 2 diabetes. We also perform diet-induced obesity studies, where conventional animals (rats or mice) are fed high-fat diets to induce weight gain, diabetes, high blood pressure, dyslipidemia and other obesity phenotypes. Our ability to combine standard physiological assays, histopathology, plasma biomarkers and imaging capabilities set Charles River apart as a premium provider for the assessment of agents intended to treat these metabolic disorders. Charles River LAL Seminar Series Seattle, WA

This intensive seminar is designed to provide an overview on the basics of LAL test technology with in-depth analysis on the types of test methodology available. In particular, this seminar will focus on problems sometimes encountered in endotoxin testing, including resolving interference issues. Speakers will be available to answer your endotoxin testing-related questions.

6th Charles River European Short Course on Laboratory Animals Brussels, Belgium

Charles River will be hosting the 6th European Short Course on Laboratory Animals in Brussels on February 8-10, 2012. The Short Course is designed to educate and update the biomedical research community on current trends and technological advances in the field of laboratory animal science. Some of the topics to be covered during the 2012 European Short Course are the 3Rs and regulatory changes.

Manager International Tax: Wilmington, MA

This position is responsible for managing international aspects of US Federal income tax compliance; assisting with international tax planning, including identification of planning opportunities, designing and implementing plans, and transfer pricing process; overseeing quarterly ETR forecast process; and participating in the tax provision process, including assessment of tax risks, documentation of key positions, and review of non-US tax provision submissions.

Scientist I: Wilmington, MA

This position is responsible for serving as a as a study director (SD), project scientist (PS) and/or principal investigator (PI) in the direction and execution of assigned studies in compliance with GLP regulations as they apply to the conduct of nonclinical research; coordinating all phases of the study planning process with appropriate departments; generating high-quality project plans, protocols, amendments and reports appropriate for assigned studies; reviewing, interpreting, integrating and presenting data on assigned studies; and functioning as contact for the planning and execution of sponsor interaction related to assigned studies, including proposal management and study scheduling, conduct and reporting.
