Mouse and Rat PRIA Panels for Health Surveillance Programs Now Available
July 21, 2011 - Charles River now offers multiple PCR Rodent Infectious Agent (PRIA) Panels for mouse and rat health surveillance. PRIA Panels allow you to quickly and accurately screen animals for numerous infectious agents and identify an active infection. With PRIA Panels, you do not have to rely solely on sentinel animals to determine health status–noninvasive samples can be collected and pooled directly from principal animals.
Designed with Flexibility in Mind
- Two species: Screen samples from either mice or rats
- Multiple tiered panels: Complements varying exclusion lists
- Noninvasive sampling: Fecal pellet with optional oral swab and fur/skin swab
- Free sample pooling: Samples from up to 10 animals can be pooled and screened with a single result for no additional charge.
- Rapid turnaround time: Results reported in five to seven business days following sample receipt
- Complimentary sample shipping materials (vials, swabs and insulated shipping containers)
Multiple Uses in Your Health Testing Program
- Alternative to shipping live animals for diagnostic testing in the midst of extreme temperatures
- Expedite quarantine by learning the health status of incoming animals within two weeks of arrival
- Minimize animal use by augmenting sentinel-based health surveillance programs
- Verify that study animals are free from infection at a specific time point
- Confirm the health of rederived pups by screening the embryo-transfer (ET) recipient female post-weaning
- Assess biosecurity risk by testing live-trapped rodents or feces found in bait stations
Superior Technology Delivers Precise Results
- TaqMan® PCR technology on the OpenArray® platform offers more sensitive and specific results than traditional gel-based PCR.
- Singleplex PCR assays eliminate the possibility of false negative results due to competitive inhibition from multiplexing PCR assays.
- Standard and proprietary controls used to prevent false results.
- Free confirmation PCR testing performed in "real-time" to assure contamination has not occurred.
