Evaluating drugs that are pharmacologically inactive in traditional animal models may call for an alternate species that more closely mimics the metabolic profile of the drug in humans. As described by Rocca and Wehner, the guinea pig may be a viable option for evaluating test articles that are pharmacologically inactive in the traditional DART animal models. Reproductive toxicology studies in guinea pigs present a cost-effective alternative to studies in large animals.

Chares River is actively recruiting speakers for our Annual Symposium on Biotechnology-Derived Therapeutics on September 10-12 in Napa Valley, CA. This is the symposium’s 18th year and we are once again looking forward to uniting drug development professionals in an interactive setting designed to provide insights into the issues associated with the development of biopharmaceuticals. While some sessions are already starting to take shape, we are open to suggestions regarding theme and topic and welcome your proposals for presentations. We are flexible about the boundaries of what we consider biotechnology-derived therapeutics. Propose topics about specific programs, general issues in product development, or key topics of interest within the biopharmaceutical community. The registration fee will be waived for all speakers.
