Delayed-Type Hypersensitivity (DTH) Model 

In our delayed-type hypersensitivity (DTH) model, we use oxazolone to stimulate a DTH response. Five days post-sensitization, a delayed-type hypersensitivity response is elicited in the animals by painting the inner and outer surfaces of the right ear with oxazolone, while the left ear is painted with vehicle. Subsequent treatment is administered and the animal's ears are measured at 24, 48 and 72 hours post-elicitation. Because the inflammation reaction involves the rapid recruitment of macrophages and basophils and then T-cells within 48 hours, this study can be a rapid screening for anti-inflammatory compounds.
