Genetically Engineered Models & Services | Charles River

space issues

Space constraint is often the biggest hurdle for you to overcome when maintaining a genetically engineered rodent colony. Charles River can help alleviate this persistent problem by rapidly responding to your evolving housing needs and offering services to ultimately reduce the number of animals you need to hold. A little extra space can go a long way to help you quickly produce the animals you need for study.

When you need more space, you need it now and you want it nearby. Our facilities that are located throughout North America, Europe, and Japan have the capacity to meet your needs and can offer local support to help you. Whether it’s for a week, a month, a year, or longer, GEMS can provide the space and services you need to manage your colonies.

Through our Breeding & Aging services, we can accept your animals into one of our isolator facilities with as little as one week notice, regardless of their health status. This flexibility can give you some breathing room to maintain the animals you need for research now with easy access to those you’ll need in the future.

Determining which animals are valuable for future generations can also help you save room. Our genotyping services can provide accurate zygosity information on your strains in approximately one week. By keeping only the animals you need, you can rapidly free up significant cage space.

Maintaining a live backup colony for strains that you are not actively using is often a large drain on resources.Cryopreserving these strains can provide space and cost savings, allowing you to maintain more animals that are being used for research today.
