Importing animals from non-vendor institutions can often present a heightened risk to the health of your facility. Charles River’s quarantine capabilities allow you to import animals from any source worldwide, without risking the introduction of unwanted pathogens into your own facility. All animals sent to us for quarantine are placed into a dedicated isolator, providing the highest level of biosecurity. Quarantine projects can follow our standard 8-week protocol that includes a comprehensive program of sentinel introduction, direct animal contact, and dirty bedding exposure, followed by a rigorous health screening process, or you can design your own quarantine parameters for us to carry out. All quarantine projects are assigned a dedicated, highly skilled project manager to assist you with importation, breeding strategies, and any other colony decisions that need to be made along the way.
Our state-of-the art quarantine facilities are equipped with biosecure isolators that provide an excellent quarantine environment. The isolator environment ensures that the health status of your animals is maintained and allows us to accept animals with either adverse or unknown health status. This service allows you to dedicate your valuable internal space to colonies of clean, healthy animals that are suitable for quality research.
As an alternative to traditional quarantine, Charles River also offers a comprehensive colony startup program that is designed to alleviate many of the headaches associated with starting a new animal colony. This program rederives, cryopreserves, and rapidly expands your existing colony in just three months, providing security to you and your animal facility and allowing you to begin your research sooner.
