ORIGIN
This strain was created in the laboratory of Dr. Edwin Cuppen at the Hubrecht laboratory in the Netherlands. Biochemical characterization revealed that SERT mRNA and functional protein are completely absent in homozygous knock-out rats and that there is a gene dose-dependent reduction in the expression and function of the SERT in heterozygous knock-out rats.
