Spontaneous mutation congenic on C57BL6/J. The obese mutation is a point mutation in the gene encoding leptin. Leptin, expressed predominantly in adipose tissue of normal mice, is not expressed in mice homozygous for the mutation ob. To Charles River Laboratories France from The Jackson Laboratory in May 2002.
