With a unique commitment to biomedical technology, including medical devices and combination products, Charles River’s Interventional and Surgical Services (ISS) business unit combines unmatched scientific and technical expertise, customer service, a mature regulatory program, and state-of-the-art facilities to help accelerate your preclinical program.

Operating from multiple conveniently located facilities, the ISS group consists of more than 110 scientists, interventionalists, and surgeons with extensive research and development experience. We offer specific expertise in the areas of interventional medicine, cardiothoracic and general surgery, cardiovascular pharmacology, orthopedics, ophthalmology, and medical device pathology. 

Each facility provides multiple surgical and interventional suites tailored to meet your individual requirements. Our capabilities include state-of-the-art fluoroscopy, digital image processing, intravascular ultrasound (IVUS), echocardiography/ultrasound, telemetry, endoscopy, and hemodynamic data collection. On-site pathology support ensures a seamless transition from in-life to the reporting phase. Even the most specialized histopathology services can be performed locally, eliminating delays and improving the quality of the finished product.

ISS draws upon the full range of Charles River’s regulatory infrastructure, offering comprehensive GLP support from protocol development through histopathology and final report. All facilities are fully accredited by AAALAC International and have a strong track record in USDA and FDA compliance.
