Immunohistochemistry

Immunohistochemistry techniques permit the visualization and morphometric analysis in histological sections of cells. These cells either have their own specific activities or contain particular chemical entities that exploit the ability of antigenic cell components to bind to highly specific antibodies labelled with visible markers for microscopic examination. Charles River has extensive experience working with these procedures as well as with a broad range of tissue-based validated methods. Additionally, we can develop new procedures to assist our clients in answering specific questions relating to the activity of their test materials.

Procedures

  • CD Markers
    • CD3/CD3e (T lymphocytes)
    • CD4 (MHC-class restricted T cells)
    • CD8/CD8a (MHC-class I restricted T and NK cells)
    • CD20 (B lymphocytes)
    • CD45RA (T memory cells)
    • CD68 (Macrophages)
    • CD31 (monocytes, macrophages, granulocytes, B lymphocytes, and platelets)
  • Hormone secretory activity
  • TUNEL method for the detection of apoptosis
  • PCNA for cell turnover and proliferation studies

Interpretation of specimens can be performed subjectively by a pathologist or else advanced quantifiable morphometric techniques can be applied.
