Toxicology Services: Infusion

Charles River Laboratories' dedicated scientific and technical staff has achieved and maintained industry-leading capabilities and a first-class reputation for undertaking both the routine and the most complex infusion toxicology studies. Infusions are either conducted via implanted indwelling catheter(s) or via peripheral vein with surgical implantation of the cannula by our experienced surgical staff. Well-established standard operating procedures have permitted the conduct of continuous intravenous infusion studies of up to 6 months in most species and 12 months in selected larger animals, making us world leaders in infusion technology. Over the years, additional specialized routes of infusion, continuous or intermittent, and study conducts have been added to the repertoire of capabilities, such as:

  • Acute to subchronic subcutaneous infusion
  • ICH-compliant developmental and reproductive toxicology studies conducted by continuous intravenous infusion
  • Intravenous infusion of weanling small and large animals

Routes of parenteral administration, via infusion and/or injection, have also evolved to include various routes permitting target tissue dosing that include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Intrathecal and epidural
  • Intracerebral
  • Intravitreal
  • Intraduodenal
  • Intravesicular
  • Intraprostatic injections
  • Intraperitoneal

As part of our growing line of products, we manufacture our own brand of infusion apparatus, which is used in-house as well as sold externally in order to give our clients access to the highest-quality infusion components available.
