Ecotoxicology Studies

Charles River provides a full range of toxicity-based study types to assess the environmental risk of chemical products. We have experience conducting studies in a variety of test articles, including those that are volatile, unstable or partially soluble.

We offer studies to assess the toxicity of test articles to a range of species, including plant and aquatic species, terrestrial organisms and beneficial insects.

  • Acute (96-hour) and prolonged toxicity to cold- and warmwater fish (e.g., rainbow trout, bluegill sunfish, carp, fathead minnow, zebrafish)
  • Acute and prolonged toxicity to Daphnia magna
  • Algal growth inhibition (freshwater and marine)
  • Fish early life stage
  • Radiolabeled bioaccumulation and/or metabolism in fish
  • Lemna spp. growth inhibition
  • Acute toxicity to Chironomus riparius (28-day)

We also provide a full analytical service for the method validation and routine analysis required in support of many of the aquatic studies.

  • Acute and reproduction toxicity to earthworms
  • Beneficial arthropods
  • Effects on soil microbial activity, carbon mineralization and nitrogen transformation
