Inflammation

Primary cultures offer fast access to study molecules of interest directly in relevant cell types. Primary cultures are real cells present in tissue instead of immortalized cell lines and are good tools for lead molecule identification (efficacy and toxicity screening).

Inflammation occurs after stroke and is also an important player in multiple sclerosis (MS). Charles River conducts contract studies in an established in vitro model of inflammation to assess the efficacy of novel compounds. Inflammation is studied in cortical glial cultures with bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) exposure using endpoints including nitrite, IL-1β and TNF-α. Data is available within few weeks from study initiation.
