Animal Housing & Equipment

Proper animal housing is critical for safeguarding your animals' health and genetic status, ensuring the welfare of your research models and protecting the integrity of your research data. For more than 40 years, Charles River has been designing animal housing equipment with these necessities in mind. Today, our engineering department develops a complete range of animal housing equipment and devises customer-specific solutions when needed. Each product addresses personal safety, animal welfare and respect for the environment as primary objectives.

Charles River has historically used isolator technology to maintain its nucleus colonies and to produce specialty strains. Customer demand has led us to offer these units for commercial sale. Our custom fabricated isolators are secure, durable and easy to set up in any conditioned environment. Typical uses for isolators include animal quarantine, housing and production of immunodeficient animals, and maintenance of foundation colonies of genetically engineered animals. Isolators also provide a cost-effective method of biocontainment or bioexclusion for critical research studies.

Available isolators include:

A BioModule allows for workspace to be added to your facility faster than conventional construction methods for a limited upfront investment. These modular units can be fully operational within 14 to 16 weeks after ordering and can be used alone or in connection with each other or with an existing building to meet regulatory requirements and stringent biocontainment and biosecurity standards. A BioModule can be built to operate under negative or positive air pressure, depending on intended use.

For more information, read the BioModules data sheet.
