Rodents and Rabbits

Rats and mice are the rodent species routinely used because of their susceptibility to toxic challenge, tumor induction and carcinogenicity. In addition, we have a vast amount of background information available on their survival, physiology, pathology and susceptibility to different test items.

The rabbit is a particularly useful animal model for assessing ocular and dermal irritation and is also the primary nonrodent species for developmental toxicity studies.
