Dr. Maureen O’Brien is a board-certified veterinary pathologist with training and experience in the preclinical safety assessment of medical devices and pharmaceuticals. She received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Ohio State University and a Masters degree in Veterinary Pathobiology from Texas A&M University. She achieved board certification in veterinary anatomic pathology (DACVP) following residency training at Texas A&M University with an emphasis on medical device safety assessment and cardiovascular pathology.
Maureen joined Charles River Laboratories in 2017 and is a lead project pathologist for medical device studies. She is currently serving as the Chair for the Society of Toxicology Pathology Medical Device Implant Working Group, and was a co-chair for the 2019 STP Medical Device Continuing Education Seminar, the 2019 ASAIO Annual Meeting “CAP” Track (critical care, anesthesiology, and pathology), and the 2019 Annual Rodent Pathology Meeting. Her scientific experience and interests include cardiovascular devices, biocompatibility, orthopedic devices, and small molecule drugs.
Maureen is an active member of the Society for Toxicologic Pathology (STP) and the American Society for Artificial Internal Organs (ASAIO). She is also a member of the Society of Cardiovascular Pathology, American College of Veterinary Pathologists, American Veterinary Medical Association, and American Association for the Advancement of Science. Dr. O’Brien is an author of over 25 scientific presentations and publications in the medical device, toxicologic pathology, and veterinary cardiovascular pathology fields.
