The human KCNA3 gene encodes the pore-forming subunit of Kv1.3, a voltage-gated potassium channel. Upregulation of Kv1.3 channels contributes to the activation of T-lymphocytes during inflammatory reactions; Kv1.3 channels are therapeutic targets in multiple sclerosis, cancer, obesity, diabetes, asthma, and autoimmune diseases.
