AI Tool Being Tested as Dementia Diagnostic
Cambridge scientists are testing a system thought to be capable of diagnosing dementia after a single brain scan
It currently takes several scans and test to identify dementia. Now, an algorithm has been created that can identify patterns in the scans even expert neurologists cannot see and match them to patient outcomes in its database.
The system compares of those worried they might have dementia with those of thousands of their dementia patients and their relevant medical records.
In preclinical tests it has been able to diagnose dementia, years before symptoms develop, and before there are signs of damage on a brain scan.
