There can be some pretty big surprises in pharmaceutical science. Sometimes drug which were developed and tested for one condition were later found to be more effective on another. This phenomenon is called drug repurposing. The most famous example might be the initial development of sildenafil (now known as Viagra) for angina pectoris and hypertension, but which now is commonly used to treat erectile dysfunction.
