US NIH Director Hopes Americans Will "Look at the Facts"
In an interview on Sunday with "Meet the Press," NIH Director Dr. Francis Collins urged the public to research and think critically about the new COVID-19 vaccine.
“I would like to plead to people who are listening to this this morning to really hit the reset button on whatever they think they knew about this vaccine that might cause them to be so skeptical. The data is out there now,” he said.
Dr. Collins was responding to polling that shows a significant percentage of Americans is skeptical about the safety of the new vaccines, believing that they have not had enough time to research safety effectively. Dr. Collins urged people to really look into the data themselves to see that safety testing has been rigorous and independently conducted.
“There have been few if any vaccines that have ever been subjected to this level of scrutiny. If you want to look at the facts, I think you should be very reassured,” Collins said.
