Charles River has acquired Brains On-Line, a global CNS-focused contract research organization (CRO) with sites in Groningen, the Netherlands; South San Francisco, California, USA; and Gottingen, Germany. Brains On-Line is considered the world’s premier provider of microdialysis to measure substances in freely moving animals. Additionally, Brains On-Line offers sophisticated in vivo efficacy and pharmacokinetics testing to better understand CNS disease pathophysiology. The addition of Brains On-Line to Charles River’s existing neuroscience in vivo capabilities further differentiates our position as a premier early-stage research and development partner for CNS drug discovery.
According to James C. Foster, Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Charles River, “The addition of Brains On-Line strategically expands Charles River’s existing CNS capabilities and establishes Charles River as the premier single-source provider for a broad portfolio of discovery CNS services. In addition to enhancing our ability to support clients’ early-stage drug research in this critical therapeutic area, Brains On-Line expands our geographic footprint. This increases the opportunity for clients to work side-by-side with Charles River’s scientists, both in Europe and in the South San Francisco research hub.”
Charles River and Brains On-Line are an exceptional cultural fit because of shared beliefs in taking care of employees and providing exceptional service to clients. Additionally, both companies place a high value on animal welfare and playing a key role in the development of novel treatments for devastating CNS disorders.
