Animal Models to Study Infectious Pathogens
ICT
In an interview with ICT, Carmen Sweeney, PhD, Scientific Director of in vivo/ex vivo testing services at Charles River's Ballina, Ireland facility, discusses strategies for handling cotton rats. They can be challenging to work with, but are an important animal model to study infectious pathogens as they have proven susceptible to a wide variety of human pathogens and are considered to be a good model system to simulate a number of important parameters of human disease.
