In keeping with Charles River’s ongoing commitment to maintaining the highest standards in animal welfare, Wilmington, United States, Sulzfeld, Germany, Saint-Germain-Nuelles, France and Calco, Italy facilities have recently earned renewed accreditation of their animal care and use programs from the Association for the Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) International.
AAALAC is an internationally recognized, nonprofit organization that promotes the humane treatment of animals in science through voluntary accreditation and assessment programs. Rigorous and extensive, AAALAC accreditation involves both site visits and program evaluations conducted by the best animal care and use professionals and researchers from around the globe. Participation in the program is voluntary and reflects an organization's commitment to the humane care of laboratory animals.
Charles River Humane Care Initiative
Our Humane Care Initiative was put in place to ensure that we remain a world leader in the humane care of laboratory animals, working hand-in-hand with the scientific community to understand how living conditions, handling procedures and stress play an important role in the quality and efficiency of research.
