Introducing Aidan Synott, Our New Facility Manager, Lyon
Aidan was raised in Belgium before earning Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Human Genetics at Trinity College, Dublin. Since joining the Japan subsidiary of Charles River Laboratories in 2009, Aidan has held various positions in operations and business development in Safety Assessment and Discovery. He transferred to the US in 2011 and worked in North Carolina and Massachusetts. Most recently, he was responsible for the oncology, immunology, metabolic, and cardiovascular disease divisions of Charles River Discovery Services. His responsibilities included operational oversight, business and scientific strategy, and external partnerships.
Safety Assessment at Lyon
Staffed by approximately 330 employees, including 70 scientists, our Lyon, France location for Safety Assessment is a large in vivo facility that offers IND-enabling studies and routine toxicology, continuous infusion, developmental and reproductive toxicology, juvenile toxicology, and safety pharmacology services. The site boasts 12,000 square meters of laboratory space and 134 animal rooms. The site specializes in biologics, and the staff have extensive experience working with minipigs. The facility shares a site with a Charles River research models breeding facility.
Research Models & Services at Lyon
A unique site for Charles River and for Europe, our AAALAC-accredited research models production facility specializes in the breeding of high-quality, inbred and outbred mice and rats (SPF and SOPF). Staffed by 360 employees, Charles River France is also home to both our European surgical and live animal diagnostics laboratories, as well as our embryology lab. The location is one of the largest and most advanced facilities of its kind in Europe, specializing in genetically engineered models and associated services. The easy access to standard and specialized research models, including immunodeficient rodents and genetically engineered models, provide our Safety Assessment team convenient access to animal models for study projects.
