Site Expansion Supports Vaccine Development

Charles River is proud to announce the opening of a USDA-licensed manufacturing expansion at the Storrs, CT campus of Avian Vaccine Services. A ribbon cutting ceremony for the 5,000 sq. ft. expansion was held recently and dedicated to former laboratory director Dr. Theodore Girshick for his many decades of leadership and service. The new space was subsequently approved for use by the USDA and added to Charles River’s establishment license.

This laboratory production expansion solidifies Charles River Avian Vaccine Services’ commitment to our customers with three new manufacturing suites. The new space will be used for production of USDA-licensed For Further Manufacturing (FFM) commercial and autogenous antigens supporting vaccine and diagnostic manufacturers. Increased fermentation capacity will be utilized for production of bacterial and mycoplasma antigens as well as a newly licensed Pullorum Antigen for the whole blood or serum plate agglutination test. Additional capabilities supporting IgY antibody production and new recombinant protein technologies further expand our portfolio of services.
