Are You Consistently Breeding Uniform, High Quality Mice?
Our International Genetic Standardization (IGS) program ensures that animals bred at any global production facility have the same genetic profile if they are an inbred strain or the same relative level of genetic heterogeneity for an outbred stock.

Diagnostic Services

Our research animal diagnostic services are built on a foundation of contamination prevention measures, effective pathogen detection, and scientific and technical proficiency. Our animal diagnostic laboratory delivers sensitive and specific testing to screen your animal facility, research biologics, and different species of animal models.
Zebrafish Health Monitoring We have a suite of diagnostic testing services to monitor the health of your zebrafish colonies. Our portfolio includes whole fish health monitoring, histopathology, and infectious disease PCR testing to help maintain the health of your animals. Learn more
Sentinel-Free Health Monitoring  Reduce need for animals by using a sentinel-free health monitoring program, such as Exhaust Air Dust (EAD®) testing, to screen for pathogens. Monitor Now
Infectious Agent Testing Services are available for screening colony animals directly, indirect screening via environmental sampling or exhaust air dust (EAD™) testing, and screening cell lines and research biologics. Explore Testing
Cell Line Testing The presence of pathogens can infect the animal post-inoculation, causing disease and impacting the animal's welfare. Precautionary cell line screening should be performed on biologic materials prior to release to confirm that they are free of infectious agents and originating from the appropriate host species.  Test Cell Lines
AAV Testing Take advantage of our sero-specific neutralizing antibody testing and screening solutions and help maximize the delivery of your gene therapy candidate. Get Started
Genetic Testing Our expert geneticists can work with you to maintain genetic integrity of your transgenic colony and provide scientific guidance and consultation in colony management and complex breeding strategy.  Review Services

Choose the Humanized Mouse Model Option That's Best for You

When your research requires humanized animal models, Charles River offers multiple options, both founded on the NCG triple-immunodeficient mouse.
• CD34+ Humanized Mouse
• PBMC Humanized Mouse
• NCG/PBMC Select Humanization Kit

As drug development for cancer and autoimmune diseases continues, demand is growing for specialized mouse models with human immune systems. Super-immunodeficient mice are often used for this purpose, as they have been shown to engraft human cells and tissues more efficiently than other models. These humanized mice permit transplantation of foreign tissues with an attenuated graft-versus-host response.

How can I get information about special offers on research model and services? Please contact our Sr. Business Development Director, [email protected].
What is your evaluation program? Our evaluation program offers free research models to clients that have not used a strain to evaluate the quality and compatibility of our animal models with their research before making a commitment. Whether you have a new research protocol, are conducting or fine-tuning a pilot study, or simply exploring the opportunity to switch to a new animal model, this program can help you make the right choice.
Do you have any COVID-19 related resources?  Yes. Take a look at our COVID-19 resources. A popular model for work on SARS-CoV-2 is Syrian Hamsters.
Do you have aged C57BL/6 mice? Yes. We have an aged C57BL/6 colony.
Are health reports available? Yes. Health reports are available for research animal models bred by Charles River in North America.
Where can I find additional educational resources?  See our expanded digital resources.
Do you provide information on infectious agents?  Yes. Understanding infectious agents that can contaminate your research animal facility allows you to develop a plan to manage or prevent an outbreak.
