The Antibody Team
Katherine Vousden, PhD
Head of Large Molecule Research
Katherine has over 22 years of expertise in the biopharmaceutical industry, 19 of those years specifically in the field of antibody discovery and protein engineering. She obtained her PhD from the Genetics department at the University of Leicester. In 2020 Dr. Vousden joined Charles River as a Science Director, to support the growth of large molecule capabilities and partnerships across the Discovery organization. She is currently Head of Large Molecule Research for our South San Francisco Antibody Discovery site.
Jean-Philippe Burckert, PhD
Director of Bioinformatics
Jean-Philippe has over a decade of experience in applied informatics and data science in the field of adaptive immunology. He graduated from the Kaiserslautern University in Germany, working on small molecule drug discovery, and later obtained his PhD from the Luxembourg Institute of Health. Now at Charles River, Dr. Burckert functions as Director of Bioinformatics for large molecule discoveries heading the antibody engineering and R&D efforts in South San Francisco.
Kathrin Zuberbühler, PhD
Associate Director, Antibody Engineering
Kathrin received her PhD in Applied Biosciences from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich). Later awarded a postdoctoral fellowship from the Swiss National Science Foundation, Kathrin joined the lab of Charles Craik at University of California San Francisco where her research focused on the generation of antibodies against complex membrane proteins. Dr. Zuberbühler joined Distributed Bio, now part of the Charles River family, in 2020 where she currently leads a team of scientists specializing in antibody isolation and optimization.
Sulochanadevi Baskaran, PhD
Principal Scientist, Protein Science
Sulo is a Protein Scientist and Structural Biologist with extensive experience working on challenging targets in neuroscience and oncology fields. She received her PhD in Biochemistry at Indiana University School of Medicine focusing on the structural enzymology of glycogen synthase. Dr. Baskaran joined Charles River in 2021, and currently leads the protein science group at the South San Francisco antibody discovery site.
Research Leader, Cell Engineering
Joyce has over 15 years of experience in antibody engineering and optimization as well as a pharmaceutical background. She received her bachelor’s degree in Animal Sciences and Management from the University of California Davis. More recently, Joyce has focused on developing cell-based assays for the identification and characterization of therapeutics as well as analyzing their role in the tumor micro-environment.
