Overview

Large animal models are typically used to test lead candidate compounds in the later stages of preclinical testing. Charles River has acquired new capabilities to validate large animal models of neurological disease, including multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, and Alzheimer’s disease. Biological modalities, small molecules, and gene therapy can be tested in the large animal models.

The Charles River site in Göttingen, Germany, has access to sophisticated techniques, including MRI, SPECT, PET, and three-dimensional anatomical mapping. These cutting-edge methods are available through collaborations with local academic partners: DPZ, the Medical School University of Göttingen, and Hannover Medical School.
