C57BL/6J (JAX® Mice Strain) Details
C57BL/6J is the most widely used inbred strain and the first to have its genome sequenced. Although this strain is refractory to many tumors, it is a permissive background for maximal expression of most mutations. C57BL/6J mice are resistant to audiogenic seizures, have a relatively low bone density, and develop age related hearing loss. They are also susceptible to diet-induced obesity, type 2 diabetes, and atherosclerosis. Macrophages from this strain are resistant to the effects of anthrax lethal toxin. It was introduced into The Jackson Laboratory in 1948, at F22, then to Charles River Laboratories France in 1981 and UK in 2004. Breeding is in accordance with The Jackson Laboratory genetic management system.
Note: We also offer aged C57BL/6J mice and C57BL/6J SOPF mice with an SOPF health profile (bred in France and the UK).

Growth chart data should be used as a guideline only.
The shaded areas on each chart are the mean weight plus or minus one standard deviation at a given age averaged across all production facilities. This represents approximately 67% of the population, with the remaining 33% falling outside of this weight range.
