Ludovico Buti, PhD, is a Senior Research Leader at Charles River Laboratories with over ten years of experience in drug discovery. He has worked across a variety of therapeutic areas, from vaccines to oncology, and held research roles at both the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he trained as a postdoc, and the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research at the University of Oxford.
His current work focuses on building more human-relevant lab models using iPSC-derived cells, organoids, and 3D systems that more accurately mimic human physiology. These models aim to enhance the translation of preclinical studies to the clinic by providing more accurate predictions of safety and efficacy. His team develops models of key tissues, including the central nervous system, liver, and gastrointestinal tract, to support early discovery and help de-risk compounds at the earlier stages of drug discovery and development.
