Hester van der Woude, PhD Senior Regulatory Toxicologist

Hester van der Woude PhD ERT joined the Regulatory Affairs Department of Charles River in Den Bosch (NL) as a senior regulatory toxicologist in the summer of 2020. In that role, she leads projects aiming at the registration of safe pesticides and plant protection products in the EU, the UK and the US, but also food ingredients/additives and active pharmaceutical ingredients and products. Due to her experience as a human toxicologist in different regulatory frameworks, she is acquainted with a diversity of human risk assessment strategies, which can be applied in a variety of different contexts including the derivation of safe exposure levels for industrial chemicals, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, excipients, and also impurities such as extractables and leachables.

She received her MSc in molecular sciences and her PhD in toxicology from the University of Wageningen (NL). After completing the postdoctoral education in toxicology of the Dutch Toxicology Association, she has become a European Registered Toxicologist (ERT). After her PhD, she started her career in industry in 2005 as a study director in ADME-studies. Subsequently, she broadened her knowledge and experience in toxicology and human risk assessment in different roles as toxicologist, supporting the development of safe medical- and baby nutrition and the non-clinical development of both generic drugs and biopharmaceuticals (oncology and CNS). Hester is a mother of two and is active as a soprano in a classical choir. She loves skiing and heavy work-outs at the gym.
